- Residential-proxy clauses. Some free VPNs resell your idle bandwidth — your IP becomes someone else's exit node. This is the worst trade in the industry, buried on page 9 of the terms.
- No paid tier at all, no explanation. Charity exists but is rare. A credible Premium plan is counterintuitively the strongest signal a free tier is a loss-leader, not a harvester.
- Permissions a VPN doesn't need. Contacts, precise location, photo library — a tunnel needs none of it.
